Change is possible when we stand together

The NACC Presidents stands with six Manitoba Ministers at a Parliamentary meeting.

The Northern Association of Community Councils (NACC) advocates on behalf of community councils in northern and remote Manitoba. We represent up to 48 communities.

We’re committed to ensuring that our small northern communities are not overlooked. Together, we bring awareness and solutions to the unique issues of northern communities.

What We Do

We work with members to:

  • Identify common issues and priorities across our communities
  • Coordinate and consult on community planning projects
  • Help articulate solutions to community problems
  • Investigate barriers that may impact development and recommend solutions
  • Lead communication and cooperation between communities, business, and governments
  • Help promote  natural resources and traditional skills for self sustainability
  • Ensure the needs of northern communities is a priority for provincial and federal governments

Current Advocacy Work

We prioritize advocacy efforts through our resolutions process. Small community issues are often addressed and resolved as they’re submitted. Larger issues are those shared across our communities. These problems take ongoing work and collaboration to make change over time.

Here are some of the topics we’re currently advocating for:

  • Peace Officer and Community Safety Training
  • Shared policing for remote areas
  • Northern transportation and highways
  • Medical travel, hospital wait times, and racism in healthcare
  • Housing needs, community cleanups, and seniors’ housing
  • Fair wages, benefit programs, and operational funding sustainability

We also advocated the need for community-based solutions led by local leadership.

Partnering for Success

We’re not alone in our desire to improve lives for people in northern communities. When possible, we collaborate with other organizations to advocate for common issues.
