Welcome! We have a lot to share since our winter update.
March Regional Meeting
NACC hosted the last of the regional meetings March 21, 2025, in Dauphin, Manitoba for the Western Region. About 22 attendees represented 8 member communities. Unfortunately, Minister Simard was unable to attend due to the budget release, however sent Jason Gobeil to attend on his behalf.
Jason is the Outreach Coordinator for the Western Regional Cabinet Office, based in Brandon. He has a direct line to both Minister Simard and Premier Kinew. He provided valuable insight with a commitment to take our concerns back to both the Minister and Premier.
Legislature in April
April 9, 2025 was a very busy day for the President and Executive who were at the Legislative Building for meetings. We met with Minister of Justice, Matt Wiebe regarding the safety concerns, opioid crisis in the north and the Community Safety Officer program. Following we met with the Department of Housing regarding the concerns put forward in the resolution submitted by Duck Bay. In the afternoon we were very fortunate to secure a meeting with Minister of Finance, Adrian Sala. Our priority here was focused on discussions around the inequities in salaries and benefits for northern employees.
Meetings with Minister Naylor and Simard
We met with the Minister Naylor of Transportation and Infrastructure, and Minister Simard, Minister of Municipal and Northern Relations May 13 and 14 . We were pleased with the communications shared and look forward to continuing the conversations in the months to come.
Annual General Conference, Meeting, and Tradeshow
The date for our annual conference is August 12-14, 2025.
Registration packages are being prepared and we plan on having them sent out to the communities the first week of June. Included in the package will be the Resolution template for conference. In order for us to better advocate on your behalf please remember to provide as much detail as you can when you submitting your resolutions.
Resolutions need to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the Annual General Conference. In addition to the Resolution template in your registration package, the criteria and nomination forms for Service of Excellence Awards will also be included. Remember your nomination does not necessarily need to be from the community you represent. Please take a few minutes to think about those individuals that have, and continue to support you in your role.
Updated Bylaws and Policies
Bylaws and Policies are now complete with the final edits being made by the Kerry Vickar Law Clinic. The Board will review at the next full Board Meeting in June 3, 2025. Thank you to the amazing committee who assisted in this process. Your time efforts and energy was greatly appreciated.
New Website
Website updates are ongoing and we are on target to have a live demonstration at the Annual General Conference in August.
We have had a very productive Spring thus far and anticipate things to get busier as we prepare for our Annual General Conference August 12-14, 2025.
Welcome new Administrative Assistant
If you attended the last Round Table meeting you would have heard my bitter sweet announcement that Wendy So, Executive Assistant has been given an opportunity that she could not pass upon. Wendy’s last day is/was May 14, 2025.Since my time here I have come to know and appreciate Wendy’s dedication and commitment to NACC. She has taught me a lot in my short time here and will be missed by the Board and Staff alike. The organization was lucky to have her for the time that they did. Wishing Wendy all the best in this new chapter.
As sad as it was to say goodbye to Wendy we are extremely excited to welcome Glaiza Dela Cruz as NACC Administrative Assistant effective May 26, 2025. Glaiza comes to us with over 15 years experience as a Human Resources Administrative Specialist. Glaiza initially joined NACC as a volunteer at the end of April and had the good fortune of spending some time with Wendy prior to Wendy leaving. We quickly recognized Glaiza to be a quick study while possessing many of the qualities we were looking for. Please be patient with us both as we navigate thru the transition process while welcoming Glaiza to the Team.
We look forward to receiving the Registrations for Conference and seeing Everyone in person in August.
Warmest Regards,
Andrea
